Grinding wheels made of CBN abrasives can be divided into the following four types according to the different processing processes and the different compositions of bonding agents used. Their properties and uses (referring to mechanical processing uses) are also different.
Abrasives are made by bonding the abrasive grains with a ceramic bond, pressing, drying, baking and dressing, and have many pores and cut with abrasive grains. The sharp corners of the abrasive grains exposed on the surface are used as cutting edges. They are mainly divided into two categories: ceramic grinding wheels (silicon carbide, brown corundum, white corundum, etc.) and ceramic superhard grinding wheels (ceramic bonded diamond grinding wheels and ceramic bonded CBN grinding wheels).

CBN has a higher hardness than ordinary abrasives. High hardness means better cutting ability and sharper; CBN has high wear resistance, which means it is harder to wear than ordinary abrasives; the ability to maintain the shape of the abrasive grain is one of the main characteristics of CBN as a high performance abrasive; CBN has high compressive strength, which means it can keep the grain intact and not break easily when used under harsh conditions; CBN has good thermal conductivity, which allows cold cutting during grinding.
